I found this article on the net. It’s really interesting. I’m glad this model is admitting that this stuff goes on. It seems that most of the models say they eat healthy foods and work out. But really, do they? Do they have time to be working out with their hectic modeling schedule? Is there time to eat?

Stories like this make us sick — not as sick as the models, though. Coco Rocha attended the CFDA conference on “The Beauty of Health,” which was held to address problems with eating disorders in the fashion industry. While there she spoke out about the pressure to lose weight and how it drove her to take diuretics, amongst other unhealthy things she did to her body.

Coco talked about how just a few years ago she weighed only 108 pounds and people in the industry said to her, “You need to lose more weight. The look this year is anorexic. We don’t want you to be anorexic, we just want you to look it.”

To try and slim down even more she started pill popping. Coco said, “Last season I took diuretic pills. Once I took so many on an empty stomach that I was doubled over for hours. That’s the last time I ever did something so terrible to my body.”

One of her ideas to help models stay healthy is to enlarge the sample sizes. If they’re not so tiny, the models won’t have to look anorexic to fit into them. Another suggestion is to keep more healthy foods on hand at shows.

And at least a couple of designers agree. Phillip Lim said about food at shows, “We used to just have water. And lots of fruit at shows. I’ve also sent Ali Michael flowers with a note saying, ‘You’re perfect as you are. See you next season.’ Love that girl, so proud of her for standing up.” Note: Ali Michaels is the model who spoke out against unhealthy standards last year after booking very few shows when she gained just a few pounds.

At the end of the panel Michael Kors said, “The next one we need to do is about skinny people who work in fashion: editors, buyers, stylists. That’s called ‘Why Does This Sample Fit Me?”
