Lately I have been making this when I crave nachos or mexican food! I am pretty sure I made it up but probably heard about it years ago somewhere lol.

Mix half a cup of three bean mix with some organic salsa.
Grate a tiny bit of extra light cheese on top
Microwave for 45 seconds – 1 min
Add some low fat cottage cheese and stir through

Simple as that! I’ll put a picture up after I make it next.
I also have a healthy salad recipe I have been making lately to tell you about!

Myth 1
Low-fat or no-fat diets are good for you.

Fact
Leading dietician Lyndel Costain says: ‘People tend to think they need a low-fat diet to lose weight, but you should still have a third of your calories coming from fat.’
The body needs fat for energy, tissue repair and to transport vitamins A, D, E and K around the body.
Lyndel Costain adds: ‘As a guideline, women need 70g of fat a day (95g for men) with 30g as the minimum (40g for men).
‘There’s no need to follow a fat-free diet. Cutting down on saturated fats and eating unsaturated fats, found in things like olive oil and avocados, will help.’

Myth 2
Crash dieting or fasting makes you lose weight.

Fact
This may be true in the short term, but ultimately it can hinder weight loss.
Claire MacEvilly, a nutritionist at the MRC Human Nutrition Research Centre in Cambridge, explains: ‘Losing weight over the long term burns off fat. Crash dieting or fasting not only removes fat but also lean muscle and tissue.’
The loss of lean muscle causes a fall in your basal metabolic rate – the amount of calories your body needs on a daily basis.
This means your body will need fewer calories than it did previously, making weight gain more likely once you stop dieting.
It’s also why exercise is recommended in any weight-loss plan to build muscle and maintain your metabolic rate.
Claire MacEvilly adds: ‘Fasting can also make you feel dizzy or weak so it’s much better to try long-term weight loss.’

Myth 3
Food eaten late at night is more fattening.
Fact
Many diets tell you not to eat after a certain time in the evening. They say the body will store more fat because it is not burned off with any activity.
A study at the Dunn Nutrition Centre in Cambridge suggests otherwise.
Volunteers were placed in a whole body calorimeter, which measures calories burned and stored.

They were fed with a large lunch and small evening meal for one test period, then a small lunch and large evening meal during a second test period.
The results revealed the large meal eaten late at night did not make the body store more fat.
It’s not when you eat that’s important, but the total amount you consume in a 24-hour period.

Lyndel Costain adds: ‘It is true that people who skip meals during the day, then eat loads in the evening are more likely to be overweight than those who eat regularly throughout the day. ’This may be because eating regular meals helps people regulate their appetite and overall food intake.’

Many popular brands offer some variation of 100-calorie snack packs. These snacks can help people who are looking for ways to satisfy their between-meal hunger without losing sight of their healthy diet plan. The options are seemingly endless—you can get cookies, crackers, and even ice cream, but is the 100-calorie snack pack good for you?

Staying Full

While 100-calorie snack packs are convenient and flavorful, many of them lack nutritionally substantial ingredients, like protein or fiber. Eating snacks that are void of filling ingredients means you’re not going to stay satisfied, which could actually lead to overeating.

Portion Control

The whole point of these 100-calorie snack packs is to limit the quantity of crackers or cookies that you consume, but a recent study suggests that this is not the case. The Journal of Consumer Research reported that consumers ate twice as much when products came from small packaging. If you wind up eating more than one bag, then they are no longer beneficial to your healthy diet plan.

Ingredients

You also need to look at what’s in 100-calorie snack packs to determine if you should be eating them. In many cases, you’re still eating junk food and could be consuming things like partially hydrogenated oil.

Is the 100-Calorie Snack Pack Good for You?

If you can find a healthier snack pack and limit yourself to eating just one, then the snack is still beneficial. Sun Chips offer a snack pack with 5 grams of fiber and vitamin E. If you’re just craving a cookie, try Barbara’s Organic 100-Calorie Mini Cookies, which are free of artificial flavors and colors. Don’t forget that plenty of fruits and vegetables, like apples or carrot sticks, are less than 100 calories.

Woah! You are all still out there :D YAY!

I’m so sorry I havent been updating, I have been quite busy lately! You know..morgage/living out of home for the first time/trying to make money to all the bills! But I am definitely inspired to keep up the site now! I haven’t really been watching my weight too much lately either, I havent been to the gym in about 6 weeks!! It’s terrible I know!

I think I will start youtubing again too. I have brown hair now so you probably wont even recognise me! Yepppp what elseee

I have decided to not let my busy schedule stop me going to the gym. I have been using it as an excuse not to exercise but now I am feeling really unfit/lazy. Tomorrow is the first day of my new life! I am going to get up at 7:30am and go to the gym for an hour and a half! Who is with me? Don’t wait until the New Year to start your new diet, start now!

Here’s my new diet/exercise regime..if anybody wants to copy feel free!

Breakfast: All Bran + Soy Milk + 1/2 Banana
Lunch: Yogurt + Grapes
Dinner: Roast Vegetable Wrap

Snacks: Almonds between meals if I get hungry

Exercise: Burn 500 Calories On Treadmill/Elliptical/Bike + Weights

Melissas Diet Tips for 2010

  • Fill bottles of water to keep in the fridge. Sometimes when we are dehydrated we eat when really all we need is some calorie free h20!
  • Ration your servings out. I already have my cereal and milk for tomorrow morning measured out and ready to go.
  • Sugarfree/Low Fat isnt always the way to go. I dont feel satisfied after a low fat/sugarfree yogurt and it sometimes leads to eating more. Now I go for a regular full fat yogurt instead. Way less preservatives too!
  • Think of the reasons why you decided to go on a diet in the first place. Do they still apply? Now slowly back away from the block of chocolate
  • Dont take life too seriously! If you eat one little bad thing just move on. Don’t get upset about it and end up eating your feelings!
