Diet Solution Update
I’ve finished reading the Diet Solution ebook. And I haven’t gone shopping yet. So I’m printing out the shopping list and taking it with me to the supermarket tomorrow.
So far I’ve found it quite helpful. There’s heaps of information about metabolic types (something I didn’t even know existed before).
According to the book there are three types. Protein Type, Carb Type & Mixed Type. By answering a questionnaire (included in the book) it determines your type and then tells you what food you should eat/avoid to lose weight.
Apparently I’m a carb type. I am not hungry all the time and can sometimes forget to eat, I rely on coffee for energy (so true!) And crave carby foods. I also learned that the amount of calories I’m supposed to eat per day to lose weight is 1160.
Oh yeah! I was shocked to discover that too much soy is actually bad for you. It affects your hormone levels and can make you infertile. The book says that an infant who is given soy everyday is having the amount of estrogen in 4 or 5 birth control pills
On the downside, this program doesn’t have many options for vegetarians. I have to switch around the vegetarian meals from the plans to make a diet. There are a lot of premade meat based diets which would be easy to print out and put up on the fridge.
Anddd here’s a snippet that I thought you guys might find helpful. I hope I don’t get in trouble for infringing copyright or anything (eep) but I’ll just post one page. This comes from the bonus book called “The Top Ten Most Common Nutrition Mistakes”
1. Dying a Sweet Death
It is no longer a secret or even a shock to most people that
refined sugar causes weight gain and is one of the leading causes of
obesity in the world. Sugar is also extremely addictive (causing
feeling of highs and lows in the body similar to most drugs). And the
negative side effects are just as bad as drugs, if not worse.
Americans, truly, don’t realize how much sugar they are
consuming in one day. Most soft drinks, juices and even some
“health” drinks have anywhere between 5-10 teaspoons of sugar in
each 8 oz serving. Can you imagine putting 8 oz of water in a cup
and then adding 10 teaspoons of white sugar and then drinking it?
Well this is exactly what you are doing when you drink any kind of
soft drink, juice and most other drinks on the market today.
And its not just drinks that are loaded with sugar. Most cereals
and packaged foods have sugar (or some form of sugar) listed as the
first or second ingredient (which means it is the ingredient in the
highest quantity).
The following words on a nutritional label mean “sugar” and
should probably be avoided:
• Corn Sweetener, Corn syrup, or corn syrup solids, Dehydrated
Cane Juice, Dextrin, Dextrose, Fructose, Fruit Juice
Concentrate, Glucose, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Honey,
Lactose, Maltodextrin, Malt syrup, Maltose, Maple syrup,
Molasses, Raw sugar, Rice Syrup, Saccharose, Sucrose,
Syrup, Treacle, Turbinado Sugar, Xylose
Fortunately for those looking for a lean, defined body, once you
stop eating sugar, your addiction will quickly disappear. People who
are “on” sugar crave it all the time. People who are “off” sugar, don’t
even miss it. Weaning yourself off sugar and sugar containing
products will cause a drastic and immediate change in your weight.
The first few days may be a bit of a “detox” (just like a drug) but these
symptoms quickly disappear (and so do the pounds!)

thanks for that mel
ill def try to avoid having soft drinks and all in the future! xx
I’ve completed one day by following the recommendations of the ebook – i’m apparently a carb type.
Mel, have you completely cut out gluten and sugar?
I was also so shocked about the soy thing – always thought it was so healthy! :O
Just wondering how is it ok that you only have 1160 calories a day? Cuz everything i read says that you should have at least 1300 calories a day in order to keep your body from going into starveation mode…
I agree with sarah – my limit is 1400 cals.
Lower than 1800 is unhealthy though.
So I’m not following the calorie guidelines.
Hey, Mel! Can you put the questionarie with the results so I’ll know which of the three types I am???
me again… Are you still a vegetarian, Mel? How are you following the diet without fruits???
Soy is okay if you eat it in moderation (2-3 servings a week). There is a danger in eating it too much in the west because it is in a lot of vegetarian products like veggie meat alternatives and people can end up having it at almost every meal. Also, look for non GMO, organic soy products.
