Well, here’s a few celebrity calorie counters for you:

Kirstie Alley revealed how at her heaviest she demolished up to an astonishing 28,000 calories a day.Kirstie now eats healthily — around 1,500-2,000 calories a day.

RENEE ZELLWEGER: for both Bridget Jones films Renee consumed 4,780 calories a day for three months, eating 20 doughnuts a day, battered beef, fast-food burgers, chips and shakes as well as pizza and peanut butter.

After the first film, she embarked on the Atkins diet. Now the 5ft 5in star maintains her 7st figure on tuna, cold meats, dressing-free salads and raw vegetables.

Two poached eggs: 148 cal.
One banana: 95 cal.
One tuna steak: 180cal.
Two portions dressing-free mixed salad: 100 cal.
100g cured thinly sliced beef: 160 cal.
One portion raw vegetables: 90 cal.
Total: 773 CAL.

KATE WINSLET: Having weighed more than 13st at school, she earned the nickname Blubber and was mercilessly teased. In 1992, she realised she was being cast for her size and lost 3st inside 12 months, leaving her a healthy 10st.

But two years later she convinced herself the industry would grant her entry only if she was skinny. She existed on only an apple a day and her weight plummeted to 7st 10lb.

In 2003, while pregnant with her second child, Joe, she gained nearly 4st. She lost this following an Oriental face-reading diet — where an analysis of skin, hair and eyes determined the best way for Kate to shed the pounds. Kate ate no red meat or milk, instead filling herself on chicken, potatoes, salad and butter.

One tuna salad: 386 cal.
One portion roast chicken: 255 cal.
One large baked potato: 176 cal.
One tbspn butter: 102 cal.
Total: 919 cal.

LIZ HURLEY: In the past, Liz has admitted to ‘eating very little breakfast, not too much more lunch. Then tiny little snacks in the day, such as a banana or six raisins. The only meal I have is dinner’.

Dinner consisted of a combination of brown rice, oatcakes and steamed fish. She also takes regular pilates classes which burn around 300 calories per session.

One banana: 95 cal.
Six raisins: 10 cal.
One 100g serving brown rice: 111 cal.
One oatcake: 48 cal.
One portion steamed cod: 90 cal.
One portion steamed haddock: 95 cal.
Total: 449 cal.

GWYNETH PALTROW: Mother-of-two Gwyneth has followed a macrobiotic diet for years. Recently she adopted a diet prescribed by celebrity health guru Dr Joshi.

As well as dairy, red meat and alcohol, she is banned from eating wheat, tomatoes, peppers, fruit, sugar and gluten. Typically she eats celery sticks for breakfast, lentil soup for lunch and salmon with brown rice for dinner.

One portion celery sticks: 10 cal.
One portion lentil soup: 150 cal.
One portion grilled salmon: 127cal.
One 200g portion cooked brown rice: 216 cal.
Total: 503 cal.

KELLY OSBOURNE: After dinner with Sir Elton John in 2003, Kelly suffered severe food poisoning. She vowed never to eat a piece of fish again — sticking to cheeseburgers, hot dogs and chips. Besides, she recently told Teen Vogue: ‘Skinny celebrities look beautiful in photographs, but when you see them in person they look hungry.’

One bacon double cheeseburger with relish: 708 cal.
One portion large French fries: 570 cal.
One vanilla milkshake: 211 cal.
One hotdog in white bun: 242 cal.
One portion fried onions: 180 cal.
One large Coca Cola: 255 cal.
Total: 2,166 cal.

CLAUDIA SCHIFFER: For supermodel and mother-of-two Claudia, a ‘no breakfast’ rule works best. She says: ‘I eat nothing but fruit and vegetables before noon.’ When she does eat, her diet consists of grilled chicken salad and water for lunch and a dinner of steamed fish, steamed vegetables and water(she does not drink alcohol).

One apple: 47 cal.
One orange: 37cal.
One 100g serving grapes: 60 cal.
One portion grilled chicken breast with no skin: 215 cal.
One serving mixed salad (no dressing): 50 cal.
One portion steamed cod: 90cal.
One serving steamed vegetables: 38 cal.
Water: 0 cal.
Total: 537 cal.

VICTORIA BECKHAM: Before the birth of her third child Cruz, Mrs Beckham was on the strawberry diet. She ate a bowl of strawberries for breakfast and little else for the rest of the day, except for litres of mineral water.

With such strict calorific intake, she maintained her 23in waist — the same measurement as a seven-year-old child’s. Victoria upped her eating when she fell pregnant, but five weeks after Cruz was born her flat tummy was back. She said it was down to ’sensible eating’ and sticking to solely Spanish food.

Victoria reportedly ate lots of paella, olives and omelettes to shed the baby bump.

152g of strawberries: 49 cal.
One portion paella: 320 cal.
One 200g portion cooked brown rice: 216 cal.
One 8g portion olives: 10 cal.
Total: 595 cal.

Hi Mel, the food and the calories you have given, is that what they eat everyday in one week to lose weigh? Thanks. ANnie

Zhenya on January 11th, 2009 at 5:45 pm #

is it actually possible to survive on those kinds of food for more than a month?
surely it’s not healthy as you’re depriving your organism….

Athena on January 12th, 2009 at 4:34 am #

So we all know that all of this is completely unhealthy, right?

Evalee on January 12th, 2009 at 10:41 am #

It seems highly unlikely that Kirstie Alley ever consumed 28,000 calories- even at her highest.
And I hope that Claudia Schiffer knows that Sumo Wrestlers don’t eat breakfast, because when you don’t everything else you eat during the day turns into fat!

Jessica on January 13th, 2009 at 8:28 pm #

its not really the amount of calories you eat its what you eat first and burn more calories than you take in.

Amy on January 13th, 2009 at 9:27 pm #

im pretty sure this isnt true, thats the kinda of amounts that anorexics eat. those celebrities dont look anorexic.

Sheri on January 15th, 2009 at 1:38 pm #

Amy: Your comment was very uneducated and almost quite sick. Please, tell me what an anorexic “looks like”. The diagnostic criteria no longer includes needing to have a low BMI, and they may have any number of eating disorders not just anorexic

It is people like you that push anorexics to go further. Honestly, If i was an anorexic, or even one of those celebs and i saw your comment it would read to me “well clearly im not thin enough”.

Well done.

jemma on January 17th, 2009 at 8:33 am #

I agree Amy. Those amounts are what anorexics eat yet the majority of those actresses don’t look anorexic… they look skinny healthy… well maybe not Posh though…

alis on January 17th, 2009 at 11:26 pm #

what happened to mel testing hoodia diet pill i never saw the results!! =(

kristin on January 21st, 2009 at 1:52 am #

did you just make these meals up? this seems highly unrealistic. you are misinforming your readers.

Mel on January 21st, 2009 at 2:56 am #

Ladies I didn’t write this article I found it on the internet and thought it was interesting so reposted it here. Who knows whats true or what isn’t

Shauna on February 15th, 2009 at 8:51 pm #

Being 5″9 and having an athletic build, and this is per my doctor as several friends who are trainers, eating less than 800 calories is flat out dangerous. In my case, I always had problems losing weight, always was heavy as a teen…then at age 25 I asked a friend of mine who played American football…what gives. I axercise 45minutes a day, didn’t eat much…why was I not losing. Simply, I was not eating enough…turns out I have been hypoglycemic and never knew it. And this applies to women who are not hypoglycemic as I am, but all, when you do not consume enough healthy calories in a day (the right combination of proteins, fruits, veggies, and yes some fats) and for the average woman my heght that exercises 30 minutes daily, ikt is recommended by my doctor I eat 1800-2500 calories a day to maintain weight, 1600-1700 to lose weight. Eating anything less than 1500 calories in a day will make you GAIN WEIGHT because it slows your metabolism down. When I do not eat at least 1200 calories in a day, I suffer from severe migraines…and bloating. So, like everyone should say…No person is the same. See a doctor and a nutritionist. They are the ONLY people qualified to determine the proper balance of nutriets you need in a day. Not some posting on a website.

me on April 30th, 2009 at 7:06 am #

hey
I think its ok what they are eating…. First of all they are not eating all those stuff one by one… they make meals on plates… Im pretty sure alot of slender fit girls will get fit with these diets… and the nutrients are good… you have fruits protein carbs… so many people dont even eat those! by any chance are you guys over-weight?

factanonverba on June 29th, 2009 at 10:36 am #

There is no doubt that the kinds of foods they are eating are good but the quantities are very dangerous! The amounts shown barely make up a meal. Most people could double those quantities and still lose weight easily.

Amy on July 12th, 2009 at 1:06 pm #

Sheri, sorry that I offended you. The typo wouldn’t have helped my post’s credibility.
I should have said that people on Xanga who have anorexia or other eating disorders eat about that much, and their pictures show smaller frames than these celebrities. It’s impossible to live on such tiny amounts in the long term, these must be temporary amounts to lose a lot of weight or just plain fabrications, because permanently eating so little would cause a mild case of death.

Jaime on July 15th, 2009 at 1:27 pm #

Sheri,
You’re numbers are wrong. It’s so obvious. As a former anorexic, i know that in the longer term eating this little food your hair falls out, your skin turns to shit, your eyes look guant and you look ungraceful, unhappy, and extremely underweight. I was eating 500-700 calories a day and losing 2 pounds a week. Then I stopped losing weight. My metobolism slowed down severly. When I went to therepy, I started to lose more weight because I was eating more and my metabolism was getting faster. My main point is, even at my lowest, 90.2 pounds, I was eating more than most of the celebrities you listed. And I highly doubt that Liz Hurley is all-in-all eating 150 calories a day.

Lola on August 6th, 2009 at 4:46 pm #

Liz Hurley and Gwenyth Paltrow look fantastic! I doubt if they eat this way all the time. Gwenyth recently stated on her GOOP newsletter that she is a former vegetarian. Still, she eats pretty healthy and rocked in Iron Man.

this is awesome! Thankyou!

rachel on January 16th, 2010 at 7:20 pm #

i am seriously going to try and cut down to about 900 cals a day in a bit to loose weight and there some great tips here thanks :)

that girl on June 24th, 2010 at 6:31 pm #

Amy, I now you commented a while ago, but I just wanted to say that what you said about not looking anorexic is terrible. I am anorexic and receiving treatment, and its comments like that, meaning they don’t look that skinny, that caused my disease in the first place, and may (but hopefully not), some day cause a relapse. Next time please consider who can read it before you say it.

Lily on July 4th, 2010 at 6:43 am #

This isn’t true no one eats 28000 calories a day. The others are amounts of anorexics. Trust me I would know.

mona on August 18th, 2010 at 7:21 pm #

Everyone who wants to follow a celebrity diet should look up Miranda Kerr. She’s thin, beautiful, and best of all healthy:) Eat healthy foods that make you feel good: Fish, Veggies, fruits, and whole grains. I have suffered from Anorexia/Bulimia too. And to that girl, Don’t say things like “hopefully not”… referring to a relapse. You have to make the decision to go back. LIke you would with smoking, the urge may come, but it will pass. All of you, don’t let weight define your happiness:) Work on the aspects and real reasons you are unhappy with yourself. I am only 23, but it took me 5 years to figure it out. I’m just happy sooner rather than later.

Gina on August 19th, 2010 at 2:47 pm #

I doubt if Gwenyth Paltrow eats only celery for breakfast and lentil soup for lunch. She could not keep up with the exercises that Tracy Anderson promotes. Who publishes this stuff?

Patti on August 19th, 2010 at 2:48 pm #

Mona, great advice. At twenty three, you sound very mature.

mona on August 21st, 2010 at 7:03 am #

Thank You Patti, I started struggling at a young age with body image. Now I have two kids, and have been married for three years….so I did everything young. haha The truth is anyone and everyone will eventually gain weight eating the foods that are readily available in American culture. The calorie content is way too high. (I promise that once you cut out the processed junk, the cravings for it will fade) However, it is so easy to stay under a specific amount of calories eating healthy. I eat massive amounts of fruits, vegetables, and lean meats….and by the end of the day I record it in my food journal which sometimes only adds up to around 800 calories.(so I get to eat more :D ) It’s ok to eat junk occassionally, as long as the bulk of what you eat is all natural good stuff :D Recovering from an eating disorder doesn’t mean you have to gain tremendous amounts of weight…it just means that it is possible to be LEAN, FIT, and HEALTHY by doing it the right way. I used to idolize vogue models, but now I look up to healthy women…like Jessica Biel..Amazing! Just look at the magazines! Frail women do not look good, they look like 12 year old boys. Women should be curvy and beautiful. Oh, and to anyone looking to lose weight… I cannot stress how important it is to drink lots of water. Trust me;) I have 2 kids, one of whom is 8 months…and I weigh 114. I was at 150 full term. trust me water water water:)

Mel on August 21st, 2010 at 1:33 pm #

Water is the best!
