How To Kick Midnight Cravings In The Face

We’ve all been there. You’re in bed and suddenly get intense, uncontrollable cravings.

Crazy diet destroying thoughts are running through your head. Do these sound familiar?

I’ll just eat well tomorrow
I don’t care about the diet anymore
One snack won’t hurt!
Guys like curvy girls
I’ve got nothing on for a while, I’ll lose weight before the next big event
It will keep my metabolism going while I sleep

All of these thoughts are poison to your healthy lifestyle! Here are some ways to help prevent late night bingeing and reduce those pesky cravings

1. Don’t starve yourself all day.
It will lead to a binge at night. Eating well balanced meals and snacking on healthy food will help fight those sugar cravings (carrot sticks & hommus, handful of almonds (7-12 almonds), 1 tbsp of peanut butter)

2. Herbal teas are your bestie.
You MUST and I mean MUST ditch the filthy old teabags and use fresh leaves. I HATED tea before trying fresh leaves brewed in a cute little pot. The difference in taste is phenomenal, I couldn’t stomach green tea before but now it is semi-enjoyable. I think in good time I’ll acquire the taste and start craving it. I’ve noticed my skin feels so much better since green-teaing

3. Have a goal
Without a goal or some direction you may as well start your sumo wrestling training now. Off you go, google it and see if there’s a trainer in your area.
Ok, let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. In all seriousness, you need a small goal to be aiming towards (don’t start out trying to lose 50lbs all at once) You’ll get discouraged when you hit plateaus and it could fuel your midnight bingeing. Remember your goal when you feel cravings coming on. If you do what you’ve alway done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.

4. Clean your teeth
Food tastes bad after you’ve cleaned your teeth. Simple and very effective trick!

5. Don’t keep junk food in the house
If it’s not easily accessible, chances are you won’t be bothered to go on a midnight junk food run. I’ve had my fair share of late night junk food runs. There are always really weird people out so late at night! It’s pretty creepy actually. One night I spotted another girl around my age with a handful of chocolate bars and fashion magazines. We were both going home to drown our sorrows with calories and even gave each other an acknowledging nod.
Don’t do it ladies, it’s expensive and everyone will know what you’re up to!

Hey Mel, thanks for your tips on kicking the late night eating! Wondered if you had any info on Sharni Vinson’s diet/workout? I saw her in Blue Crush 2 last night and got totally inspired – she’s always so ripped!

i love your idea about goals. this is what i do too!
i pick a goal that almost seems unreachable, then i break it down into instant, weekly and monthly goals. the instantly acheivable ones are for example: plan out workouts for the week. weekly goal: do all planned workouts for the week and monthly goal could be to loose 2kg

Hi Kirby, I bought a glass teapot from ebay. I then found that they sell the same ones at ‘The Tea Centre’ for the same price! If you go into your local tea centre store (they would definitely have them in NSW) and ask the staff they will be able to explain everything to you! I couldn’t STAND green tea before trying the leaves. The leaves come dried in a little bag and you scoop one teaspoon per cup of tea you are making. Boil the water in your normal jug and then pour it into the teapot. Add the leaves into the little leaf drainer thingy and lower it into the water. You leave it to brew for a couple of minutes (apparently 2-3 mins is recommended) and then pour it into your cup!
