How Your Makeup Could Affect Your Skin
I know this isn’t diet related but who cares, I’m going to post whatever I like. I’m going to tell you a little story about my makeup and how its affected my skin. All through highschool I never had any pimples. I swear I had three pimples throughout all of highschool. My skin isn’t the type to get them. Strangely..before my 21st birthday (worst possible time!) my skin started breaking out in heaps of pimples! I was quite stressed because this isn’t something I’ve had to deal with before and it was just before my party.
Anyway, ever since my 21st birthday there has been a battle between me and pimples. They are not incredibly noticeable, especially with makeup but they are there and very annoying. So for five months I’ve been trying to get rid of them but they haven’t been going away!
Then I decided to think about what might be causing them. Could it be my diet?
Not really..if anything my diet is healthier now than 5 months ago.
I realised something. When the pimples first started I went out and bought blue clearasil gel facewash. Before this I never used facewash. Could it be that my facewash was causing them?
I decided to go back to using water and see what would happen. I was pleased that they seemed to get a bit better. So now I have gone back to using water.
They still weren’t 100% better. I decided to change my makeup. I used to use Kryolan TV Paint Stick, which is a professional makeup so its quite heavy. I switched to a zinc based makeup and my skin improved again.
My skin had cleared up completely after switching makeup and using water to wash my face at night. I forgot about it and moved on with life. Then something happened the other day to confirm my suspicions about the makeup.
I had a dark spray tan so needed to use a darker foundation. I used my old makeup, the Kryolan. When I removed my makeup that night I noticed lots of pimples again! So I can confirm that it was my makeup causing the pimples.
I decided to share this story with you in case you too are having the same problem. We all want flawless skin now don’t we?
If you have any pimple stories then please share!
Love Mel
xx
Ps: How nice is Natalie Portmans skin!

hi, this summer i was reading seventeen magazine and notced they had awesome make up tips =]
i read a section where using this foundation bronzer makes you look “sunkissed” when wearing pink tones
ive been using the make up, and i noticed that the days i wear the make up (there wont be any pimpes on my face that morning) but that night ill have an array of pimples all on the temples of my face! i do think thick make up does make your skin break out
Poor you…Clearasil is awfull, it does indeed cause more spots then it clears.
I like using products from phatmacies like Vichy and La Roche Posay as they are much more proffesional. My make is Clinique and it’s very gentle and has great ingredients!
mel, what is the brand name and type of makeup that is zinc based that you use now?
Hey Erica, whats your twitter name? I’ll follow you!
Amanda, I don’t know if this is available in other countries but in America we have a company called Ella Bache. I just use their zinc. I’ll check what its called and get back to you, I think its new
xx
Hey Mel!
Just wanted to confirm something with you.. aren’t you from Australia?
“but in America we have a company called Ella Bache.” Hmm..confusing!
Ok I’m clearly retarded. I am from Australia. I was thinking that you guys might not have it in america as I typed it.
hehe oh im from australia mel. i know ella bache well. i will have to have a look to try and find the foundation. thanx. im always on the hunt for something that doesnt break my skin out
I found that when I washed my hair with Pantene Shampoo, it caused spots along my hairline (I am blessed with good skin, so it was notable).
A while after noticing this, and changing shampoo, my friend hannah complained about a spotty forehead – turns out, she also used Pantene, and when she changed, the spots cleared.
So, shampoo (seemingly pantene) can cause spots as much as makeup!
Ah, and since i’m able to make comments here, I tried to join the forum a while back, and never was able?
I went and got a facial recently and the lady said there is an ingredient that is in most makeup products, I can’t remember the name of it but it irritates and inflames pimples. She said there are only a few products that don’t use this ingredient..it would be handy if I could remember the name of it! maybe you could do some research on it.
I think most mineral makeups don’t have the ingredient, not too sure.
hope this helped
Makeup is terible sometimes lol but I love it to much so Im thinking of buying the kardastrians sister skin care my skin is almost perfect but I have a skin iratation problem a reddness almost alittle bit not to bad but I have sinsitive skin.. so Im trying there products but also i love professinal brands and trying diff .makeup but i use too faced makeup and maybelleine foundation so I love theres but im almost out and im switching to Chanel annalynne mccord uses it so im hoping it will be the best foundation!
Would the ingredient be: bismuth oxychloride?
this ingredient was horrible for my face, its in alot of makeup and also is in mineral makeup as well! if you are prone to acne, stay away!
