Ricky Gervais Hilarious Stand Up

I hope this doesn’t offend anybody but I found it pretty funny! Sometimes we just have to stop being so serious and just laugh at how ridiculous the ‘Obesity Epidemic’ has become

I actually find this video quite offensive…. There are lots of obese people that can’t help it because of severe mental problems, even eating disorders like binge eating. Or metabolistic problems….
I really don’t think anyone should be making fun of this…

He’s clearly making fun of the people who use the disease as an excuse. Yes it’s sad that binge eating, metabolic disorders and mental problems lead to obesity but totally not what he is making fun of. Comedians always joke about sensitive issues (race, homosexuality etc) because we are so serious all the time. It’s just a joke :)

I think he’s only saying that it’s not like cancer or a disease like that where you’re completely in the hands of a doctor. Yes, there are people who are depressed and eat emotionally or people who binge eat and it’s really sad that they’re stuck in an emotional state where they’re no longer in control of their lives. That being said, I don’t think he’s referencing those types of people, although I can’t say for sure who he was talking about in this stand up since I’m not him, that’s just how I interpret it. I think he’s just talking about people who complain but don’t WANT to do anything about it. I have a close friend who is obese and she eats healthy foods and jogs and tries walking, but it’s hard for her to lose weight because she actually has a medical disorder that got her there in the first place. She’s not lazy, but some people are, like a girl I go to school with, she complains about her weight constantly and has actually asked me to tell her she’s skinny before when she is substantially overweight. We ask her if she’d like to go on walks with us because she always complains about her weight and she retorts that it sounds boring/lame/she’d rather watch tv or play video games. At dinner she goes back through the buffet two or three times and always gets dessert and then tells us that she’s overweight because of genetics. My point is, there are obese/overweight people who try hard to put off the weight and unfortunately it’s near impossible for them, but there are also people who are lazy and refuse to do what they KNOW is best for them. My friend who is obese actually gets very frustrated with people like the girl I go to school with because she says they have the power to take control of their lives and go out and lose the weight and be happy and healthy yet they refuse to do it. She says it’s like being confined to a wheelchair and having to watch all these people with perfectly capable bodies and legs sit around on couches and never move. I think the real thing he’s poking at here is people who try to make excuses instead of DOING SOMETHING, the core of the issue isn’t even overweight people, it’s plain and simply people who are lazy and make excuses. Whether your skinny, average or overweight, making excuses for anything does nothing for you. You can accomplish great things by going out into the world and taking it on without holding back. Any excuse you ever try to make for yourself will ONLY hold you back.

    There’s my rant! Whew! :)

Yeah I can see how it can be seen as offensive but you can’t deny there must be massive amounts of people also using disorders/illness as a cover up for their lack of control or effort. Also, I’ve heard recently about a woman who is eating 20,000 calories a day because she WANTS to try and outweigh the fattest woman or something and wants to weigh 1 tonne, while her 2 sons have to run around after her because she’s gotten herself into such a state state. That is selfish and disgusting to me, that she’s purposely inflicting her own issues on her family and the health service and is bragging about it to try and get some kind of recognition. It’s a sad world and there are worse things going on, and yeah Ricky can be pretty offensive but 9 times out of 10 I find him hilarious so thank god for people that make us laugh for living! :)
