The Mediterranean Diet is a great way to help you lose weight safely and effectively. This diet focuses on healthy foods eaten by many of the people living in the Mediterranean Basin. The Mediterranean Diet is a modern way to lose weight by simply changing what you eat and how you cook. This diet proves to be both safe and effective when followed correctly. Developed originally in 1990, this diet has had much time to develop and improve.
There are many things that make the Mediterranean diet so effective. One of the main points of the Mediterranean diet is the use of olive oil over less healthy oils like vegetable oil.

Celebrity Personal Trainer/Fitness Model Joe Diangelo is an advocate of The Mediterranean Diet

By using olive oil more often in your cooking you can cut down the amount of fat you consume, and that will obviously be a more healthy, weight loss effective way to cook. Another main point of the Mediterranean diet is the fact that most of the foods are unprocessed and are eaten in their natural form. Often times we take out a lot of the important nutrients in food when we cook or process the food before we eat them. By leaving the food in it is natural state you will get more of the healthy nutrients out of the food, making it better for you and your diet.

The only downsides found in this diet might be a lack of nutrients. Some people question whether or not the diet provides enough protein and calcium. However, as long as you take the recommended vitamin supplement pills and eat the foods specified, you can offset that deficiency with little to no problem. The Mediterranean diet suggests that to increase the amount of calcium you receive you should eat goat milk and to increase the amount of protein you receive you should eat increased amounts of unprocessed green vegetables. By consuming more of these types of food you can make the already healthy Mediterranean diet, even healthier.
This diet, as I am sure you can tell from the name, is based off of traditional Mediterranean cuisine. This diet has been unofficially used for many years. It focuses around a low saturated fat, and high monounsaturated fat diet to help you lose weight effectively.

If you are interested in losing a lot of weight and keeping it off, you should give the Mediterranean diet a shot. It will be well worth your time, and may not require many changes.
