Mel, are you serious?
The Atkins Diet is a crash diet, people don’t do it for the long term, and gain the weight back afterwards.
It makes your body go into ketosis, which is where it eats your fat because it doesn’t have carbs to use as energy. It’s good for weight loss, but that’s because it’s starving your body. Ketosis = STARVATION.
You lose a lot of weight at the beginning, more than people eating low-fat diets, because when proteins break down they release water that was holding them together.
The Atkins diet has a higher that reccommended intake of saturated fat as well (usually), which has been shown to increase the risk of coronary heart disease.
Low carbohydrate intake has also been linked to increased stress and rates of depression.
Low-fat diets compared to low-carbohydrate diets lose more weight over the course of a year or more.

Weight loss is an indicator of disease in some cases, and it is not always a healthy thing. Cutting out natural food groups = bad.
I hope no one paid you to write this, you seem smarter than to think the Atkins diet is healthy.

Hi

I’m sorry if this article is incorrect, it was for SEO purposes (from the internet) and as I don’t know much about ketosis diets I didn’t even realize it was a fad. From what my understanding it was a high protein low carb diet which have been proven to be quite effective in weight loss. Anyway thanks for your feedback! Atkins is really only good if you’re planning on sticking with it for 12+ months. I’ve read in an article that it takes about 3 months for your body to actually go into a state of Ketosis (depending on the person)so most of those first weeks I’d imagine that you’ll gain quite a lot.

It’s relatively unhealthy but I suppose it works better than starving yourself.
